Must run in the family...

It's that time again... DRAMA CLASS!

We're doing A Christmas Carol again, and again, Jaben will be playing Bob Marley. Now, he's not overly happy about that... he wanted a different part this time and expected a different part this time. But, it is what it is and he'll do his best. Plus, the next play is Pinocchio and I think Jaben would be an adorable Pinocchio! The best way to get that particular part is to do his best and rock out a part he's not entirely happy with. Now, Bob Marley is a really good part, don't get me wrong. It's a show stopper - roll on the floor laughing if it's done right. And he CAN do it right. So, he will.

The one big change we have this time around is Kyan. He is participating in the rehearsals! He did the singing audition (OH SO CUTE!!) and began learning the dances with the other kids. Jill told him his part is Child 1 (which she made up to make him happy) and he's trying really hard. I don't know if he'll actually make it on stage when the time comes - that's up to him and how he does - but he's going to work along side the other kids as long as he wants. And he's so CUTE doing it!

I forgot my camera last night but believe me I will have it next week! You gotta see it to believe it! GO Kyan!!

We also got to meet up with Stacy, which was great and not nearly enough time. We had about an hour while they waited for their room to be ready, but the kids all played in the dry play area and Stacy and I gotto talk. It was nice and I'd really like to do it again sometime soon!

Inother, slightly more amusing news... I've been working on Kyan's manners lately. Y'know, making sure he says "excuse me" when he passes gas. Except now it's, "Excuse me,Kyan," every time! And when someone else does, they have to say, "Excuse me, Kyan" as well. It's kinda cute. Then again, it may be one of those things you have to hear in person.

And in PLAY news -- Jaben got the part of the Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist!! We could not be happier or more excited! Can't wait!!

Buy tickets NOW!

Thought I'd post the poster (I did) for the CD release concert Jaben's drama teacher and her husband are having. This isn't the final version, but it's the only one I had on this machine. It's got all the right info and it does look pretty much like the one we're using. If you're in the area, I highly recommend going to the show... even if you don't like country music I think you'll like them. I might be biased, but they're really, really good.

Beauty and the Beast

MY KID IS SO TALENTED!!!!

This past Friday, June 1, Jaben was in Beauty and the Beast, as Gaston. Yes, my short little dude played a big, burly, arrogant jerk and he was GOOD at it! He acted his little hiney off, actually.

This was Jaben's part! Absolutely beyond the shadow of a doubt! He was INCREDIBLE! He was so funny, he was so good, he didn't miss a line and in fact he knew the other kids' lines when they forgot them! He had the audience in stitches - even in places I didn't think people would laugh he played it so well they went NUTS! Seriously! At intermission people were coming up to me telling me what an amazing job he was doing, he's so talented... I could not believe it! I mean, yeah, I knew he was hitting it out of the park, but wow! To have the other kids' parents be that impressed is HUGE! I can't wait to get the DVD!!!

Okay, I'm bragging my butt off here, but I feel like I can honestly say that there was only one other child on that stage that was even remotely as good as he was, and that was the girl who played Belle. I talked to her mother after and she said the same thing... they both just blew the other kids away. I know, I know, not so great for the other kids (there were some BIG problems with the castle objects) but wonderful for ours! I already KNOW how talented he is!! I was literally sitting there thinking, "Wow... that's MY son!" I could not be more proud of him!

A little slow on the uptake

Yeah, I might be a little slow to post this but I just have to.

Did you NOT know that Britney Spears is a skank? I mean seriously, did she surprise you? Yeah, me either. It really was only a matter of time before she self-destructed and oh boy is she skipping towards kaboom now! What kind of MOTHER shows her cootchie to the world? We all know it wasn't an accident (I almost typed assident but thought that'd be over-the-top....... but maybe not), so what was she trying to prove? That she's nasty? Got it. That she doesn't care what people think? Got that too.

But hey, listen up, Brit -- you can lose your children for certain kinds of behavior and if you want to keep them with you, hug them when the urge hits, watch them grow, give them the fairytale childhood your kind of money can provide -- then grow the fuck up and act like their MOTHER. You can no longer behave like Paris Hilton's bitch... you have babies depending on you and you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Imagine how you'd feel if that were your mother.......... that's how your boys are going to feel one day. Straighten up girl -- it's not about you anymore.

'Nuff said.

Okay, moving on. I heard all about the Clay Aiken/Kelley Rippa thing (yeah yeah, yesterdays news... bear with me) where he put his hand over her mouth. And? First of all, have y'all seen the picture of her doing just that to Regis? Okay then, Rippa needs to get over herself. And Rosie O'Donnell going off like it was a gay thing? Pul-eeze. It's not all about gays, it had nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not Aiken is gay (and who cares anyway? it's HIS business)... Rosie (who I used to love, BTW) needs to learn when to keep her mouth shut.

*shakes head* But that's not why I started talking about this. I read on a message board one woman calling Clay putting his hand over Kelley's mouth abuse. Read that again. He put his hand over her mouth and it was abuse. Let that sink in a bit. Now, did you see the clip? Think about that clip and think about the word abuse. Was that abuse? Not by a long shot, people. It probably wasn't the most polite or hygenic thing he could've done (but as we've all seen, I'm sure, Kelley is guilty of the same thing) but it most certainly was not abusive. Abuse hurts someone... mentally, physically, and likely both. A guest host on a stupid morning talk show making a rude, inappropriate mistake is NOT abuse. Statements like that - his hand over her mouth was abuse - are one of the reasons so many people do not take real abuse seriously. How can you, in good conscience, compare that to the experience of someone who is hit, someone whose character, intelligence, whose very sense of self is wiped out every day by the words of someone who is supposed to love them? Is that even remotely comprable to the bruises on a child's face? To the broken bones of a mother (or father) who takes it themselves to spare their children? To.................

Well, there are a million sad, scary, sickening examples. But one thing is certain. What Clay Aiken did is in no way abuse. It was kind of gross, it was inappropriate, it was definitely rude. But abusive? That kind of comparison keeps true abuse from being recognized and the person who said it should spend a little time at an abused women's and children's shelter to learn the truth. She should be ashamed of herself.

Okay, sorry about the rant. Sometimes these things just gotta come out.

On a more upbeat note, things are going well with our play, a lot of ads sold for the program and I have a lot of work ahead of me to get it ready to copy by Tuesday. But it'll get done, no problem. To those who know us IRL, it's Dec 17 at 2pm - don't forget!! Jaben is going to be AWESOME!! Can't wait!
